10 Year Business Anniversary

Its time to celebrate! It’s my 10 year business anniversary this month (November 2023).

Let me start with saying Thank you everyone for your support. Those who are a member of my Facebook, Instagram or Mailing lsit you would already be aware that in celebration throughout November I’m running some special offers.

The last 10 years certainly have not been a easy journey. During the first 8 years of my business I also worked part time jobs. These included working at a supermarket as an online shopper and at a funeral directors as a administrator and arranger. While working at the funeral directors I really lost my way with my business, my thoughts had changed to whether to develope my knowledge and become a Funeral Director. At this point I almost quit my business until my husband reminded me about the time I had invested into the business and that what I was doing was my calling.

Then in 2021 our family suffered a bereavement and I realised that working in the funeral trade was mentally draining. My mental health was suffering and it was effecting my home life as well. Therefore I made the decision to leave my part time job to concentrate on my own business,  so from May 2021 I have been solely working on a self employed basis.

Where is started?

Back in 2013 I was made redundant from a bank call centre and my role as an operational analyst. I was already trained in Swedish Massage and Spa Manicure and Pedicure so I decided to start my own business with the name ‘Nicola’s Holistic & Nails’. I got some business cards from a well-known online company and created some price lists. Joined the Guild of Holistic Therapies and got myself insured. I also enrolled on an Indian Head Massage Course, a Gel Polish application course and ITEC Reflexology course. I set up a Facebook page and I started seeing my first clients. To find out more about my journey please read my blog My Journey to Become a Holistic Therapist

When I first started my businessmy 2 children were under the age of 4 so I was very grateful to have my family around me to be able to look after them while I studied on courses, saw clients during the day and evening. It really has been hard work but being able balance days with the children and seeing clients as been a big win.

After a couple of years I decided it was time to change my business name to really reflect my business and where my love really was which was the holistic treatments. Therefore my business name became ‘Holistic Therapies By Nicola’. I meet an amazing Graphic Designer called Lesley who run ‘North South Design’ who instantly understood where I wanted to take my branding. So from this point my business took a turn as it looked more professional, it had its own branding and I really did start to believe mysefl and business.

A Milestone in my business

In 2018 I visited a spa in April and soon realised that I required a log cabin in my garden to be able to offer my treatments from rather then doing all the treatments on a mobile basis. I did my research, spoke to my exisitng clients and found a local company who could design and fit my garden room. In August 2018 my log cabin was built and this attracted more clients who preferred to have treatments away from their home. My cabin soon became my sanctuary and still today I get clients comment on how lovely the energy feels and cosy it is.

Then in 2020 Covid -19 was in the news and my business had to close under government guidelines. The following couple of years were really tricky so I started to grow my retail business by stocking more crystals and spirtiual items and promoted them through Facebook and allowed click and collect, contactless delivery and collections. At times during this period I felt like my business was never going to be the same again and that I may quit my business as it really felt soul destroying not being able to do what I loved. During Covid I was grateful that I was working at the Funeral Directors so that we at least had an income.

Then in 2021 when the world all seemed to be back open I had come to a decision to change my business name to ‘Holistic Wellbeing With Nicola’ this was due to my business evolving as I didnt just offer therapies but I had decided to host women support circles, moon workshops, and possible move into a teaching role at a later date. So I had a zoom meeting with North South Design to discuss a rebrand to the new name, which meant new logo, new business cards, new price lists and new website with shop. This has really been a turning point in my business and even today my business is still evolving as I am on my own spiritual journey and developing and learning.

What My Business Is Today

My business certainly is different from when I started as there is a few treatments I no longer offer. This is because I’m being true to myself and been listening to my intuition. So the biggest change has happened in 2023 as I have really been on my own spiritaul journey. I have made new connections with clients and other therapists. These connections have lead me to be part of a psychic circle where I am developing my skills to do spiritual and card readings. So watch this space….
