Preparing For Reopening
Like most professional salons, treatment rooms and therapists I closed my doors in March, following Government and Professional bodies advice. I’m now in the process of preparing for reopening. No date set yet.
For me I have had many mixed emotions over the past weeks. I understand the importance of closing, but it hasn’t stopped me missing doing what I love. I’ve used the time to plan for my return, spending valuable time with my kids and completing some online courses.
I have completed The Guild of Beauty Therapists Covid-19 Infection Preventation and Control course and Barbicide Covid-19 Certification. I am also following the guidance from the Association of Reflexologists and my insurance company.
Therefore I am writing this blog to outline the changes I have implemented to prevent the spread of infection. I will communicate my updates on here as I continue to assess the situation.

Self Isolating
Firstly let me reassure you if myself or any family member experience any symptoms I will self isolate. I will be cancelling all appointments and reschedule. I will follow the Government and NHS guidelines and advice, where possible will get tested as well.
If it is a confirmed case of Covid-19. I will advise any clients I have seen prior to becoming unwell so that you can make the necessary assessment.
My Clients and appointments
If you or any member of your household experience any symptoms of cold, flu or Covid-19 please cancel your appointment.
I will only book appointments in advance, there will be no booking on the day.
A telephone risk assessment/consultation will be completed by myself before you appointment (possible the morning of your appointment). I will check again with you on arrival to my treatment room.
Please advise me if you experience any symptoms following your appointment. I can then assess whether I need to cancel other appointments or self isolate.
All clients will be asked to wear a face covering. Please can you supply your own even if its a scarf wrapped round twice is fine. I do have disposable masks for those who do not have anything.
Please use the coat peg provided in the treatment room for your personal belonging and use the hand sanitiser.
Please do not arrive early for your appointment as the treatment may not be ready. Arrive at your appointment time and press the door bell at the gate. I will come let you through at your appointment time.
Myself and my protection
In my preparing for reopening I assessed my own hygiene procedures I already have in place but wanted to outline them on here to reassure my clients.
I will be wearing clean uniform and face mask for each appointmnt. I will be changing between clients and washing at the same time as my towels. Therefore my washing machine will be working overtime.
I will be washing my hands before leaving my house as I do not currently have running water in my treatment room. I’m investigating the possibility of getting water in there. Then I will use hand sanitiser on entering my treatment room and before your treatment. My hands will cleaned with anti bacterial hand wipes and sanitiser after your treatment.
Disposable gloves will be worn by me while cleaning. A clean pair will be worn to set up the couch and chair ready for your treatment.
I will be wearing gloves to complete any manicure and pedicures to try to reduce the risk of spreading germs.

My Treatment Room
In Preparing for reopening I have made some changes to the appearance of my treatment room set up.
You may notice I have packed away all my display items. This is to save cleaning time as I would need to wiping all these down between clients. Those of you who require to purchase any items still can but I will unpack what you request.
A coat peg and hand sanitiser will be situated on the right hand side as you enter the room. Please use both.
Between each appointment my treatment room will be cleaned and disinfected on all hard surfaces. Including all used disposable equipment such as spatulas will be bagged and binned. I will be placing all used towels through the wash.
Treatments
To reduce the risk I will be unable to offer all my treatments. Treatment times will be limited to 1.5 hours.
From my treatment list the following are going to be temporarily removed or altered
- Any face treatments including Hopi Ear Candles, Face and Head Massage, Indian Head Massages. This is due to close contact with your face and you would not be able to wear a face mask
- Hand and Arm massages and Hand reflexology. Due to skin contact with your hands and I’m unable to wear gloves to complete these treatments.
- Back Massages and full body massages. I believe wearing a face mask and being faced down is to restrictive to your breathing.
- Reiki will be available as a non touch treatment providing we are both wearing a mask.

Payments and Pricing
There will be an increase in my prices due to all the products, preparations, PPE, extra uniform, cleaning, telephone consultations and time required.
I will only accept cash payments in exceptional circumstances. Therefore all payments are to be paid via debit/credit card via my card machine. If you would prefer to do bank transfer please pay in advance of your appointment.
To receive regular updates on my business please follow my Facebook page. I will also share photos of my preparing for reopening.
