On offer is a substantial early 19th century English porcelain campana shaped vase, attributed to the Derby porcelain factory and dating to circa 1815–1825. The vase stands 12.5 inches tall and is finished in a distinctive peach ground with extensive hand applied gilt classical ornament, twin scroll handles, and an oval reserve painted with a finely detailed basket of flowers. Derby was one of England’s leading porcelain manufacturers during the Regency period, celebrated for its rich ground colours, refined gilding, and accomplished botanical painting. The floral panel on this example is hand painted in the naturalistic manner associated with senior Derby flower painters of the period, framed by gilt laurel borders and classical motifs. The form is derived from classical campana and krater shapes popular in early 19th century decorative interiors. The vase shows honest age related wear consistent with an early 19th century piece, including wear to the gilding, areas of staining and wear around the join between the body and stem, internal staining, and some tight hairline cracks. These features do not detract from the overall decorative presence and authenticity of the piece. A fine Regency period porcelain vase that retains strong visual impact and period character.
