A Higher Power Shielded Toroidal Transformer Ever since we used the first toroidal transformer in an audio power amplifier (P40), we have been optimising their build and usage. In the EXA100 we decided to use a shielded toroidal transformer to lower the interference close to the sensitive audio circuitry. With a robust power supply stage and vanishingly low electro-magnetic interference, we have managed to make the EXA100 more powerful with lower distortion.   100w Of Output Power Delivering a massive 100w of output power into 8Ohms, and 150W into 4Ohms, the EXA100 is designed to drive more demanding loudspeakers with ease and authority. Likewise, the extra power can also be seen as extra headroom for your speakers which can be helpful during large dynamic peaks. We have even updated the protection stage within the amplifier, ensuring only the cleanest of audio signals is sent to your loudspeakers.   Lower Distortion Improvements to componentry and layout has allowed our team to lower distortion across the board for improved sonic performance. This means more of your music and less colouration, leading to a more faithful reproduction of your favourite tracks.   Digital Excellence HDMI EARC We know many of our listeners use their stereo setups to use with their TV, and who wouldn’t? That’s why we have made it even easier to integrate your stereo setup with your TV, with a dedicated HDMI eARC input. This allows for higher quality HDMI audio streams (up to 24/192kHz) and easier setup for those wanting better sound from their TV.   Asynchronous USB From CD-ripped WAVs to 24bit/384kHz FLAC files and DSD 256, the EXA100’s internal DAC handles them all when you connect direct to a PC or Mac using the asynchronous USB socket. In asynchronous USB mode, the device controls the timing and clocking of data transfer independently of the host – basically offering better sound over synchronous USB audio playback.   ESS 9018K 2M The ESS 9018K2M chip is a high-quality DAC that effortlessly coverts digital streams into a clean analogue signal to feed into the amplifier stage. We’ve used this DAC in some of our other products and we really know how to get the best sound out of it, a lot of attention has been paid to the digital stage of the EXA100.   Bluetooth Built-in (Apt X Hd) Bluetooth is a handy feature to have, especially if you have friends over and want to listen to something quickly. It is however still a lossy source and is still compressed, luckily aptX HD is one of the best codecs out there, offering near-CD quality playback for high quality Bluetooth playback. So don’t be afraid to let your friends connect to your EXA100 and show off some of their favourite tracks. If you want high quality wireless streaming though, why not look at the new EXN100.   Timeless Design Clear Connections Who else has struggled to read an input label while crouching over a piece of Hi-Fi equipment? As a clever touch, the rear connectors on all EX and CX Series Hi-Fi components are labelled upside down as well as the correct way up. We have also included a dedicated 6.3mm headphone output on the front panel, for those wanting to use headphones late at night.   Consistent Cambridge Design A timeless classic, the EXA100 matches our AX and CX series with its Lunar Grey finish for a product that looks fresh and elegant.
