Abyss 8 is one of the smallest, most compact subwoofers that MartinLogan has ever built, but don’t let its small footprint fool you, it is capable of bass completely unexpected from its ultra-compact size. The key to its deceptively strong, yet detailed sound is its Hybrid Woofer System which utilizes a pair of 8” passive radiators to bolster its active 8” woofer. This woofer system is driven by powerful amplification, and a precision DSP engine, all contained inside a beautiful, yet robust, 1” thick cabinet. To complement the impressive power and musicality of Abyss 8, MartinLogan engineers included an array of connectivity options ranging from XLR to the built-in wireless option. Abyss 8 also features MartinLogan’s powerful and intuitive control app for convenient setup and adjustment, as well as being compatible with the award-winning Anthem Room Correction (ARC®) system. Hybrid Woofer System – The Ultimate Compact Powerhouse Abyss 8 is no ordinary 8” subwoofer. Featuring a unique 8” Hybrid Woofer System, Abyss 8 combines an active 8” aluminum woofer with two 8” aluminum passive radiators. This innovative design offers the enhanced output of a ported subwoofer while maintaining the compact size and tight bass associated with sealed subwoofers. Magnitude amplifiers are designed to deliver their power reserves with ultra-low distortion to ensure maximum fidelity along with high output capability. Guaranteeing exceptional control over its long-throw 8” Hybrid Woofer System, the MT-1kW amplifier helps Abyss 8 provide an immersive audio experience from an ultra-compact subwoofer. Advanced Vojtko DSP Engine: Elevating Subwoofer Performance Abyss subwoofers utilize the cutting-edge, ultra-high-resolution Vojtko DSP engine, named after MartinLogan’s Chief Audio Technologist. Featuring a best-in-class 500MHz DSP with 64-bit processing, the Vojtko DSP engine is the maestro that commands all aspects of subwoofer performance in real-time. This level of computing power allows MartinLogan engineers to fine-tune performance for maximum output and fidelity with complete audible transparency as well as enabling advanced features like wireless app control, integrated wireless signal connection, and other advanced DSP functions. Thanks to the computational power of this sophisticated DSP engine, Abyss subwoofers are also compatible with the award-winning Anthem Room Correction (ARC®) system. Built-In Wireless Capability Although correct placement plays a key role in optimizing subwoofer performance, getting a cable where you need it can be challenging. For ultimate convenience, our Abyss subwoofers come with a built-in Wireless Receiver and Wireless Transmitter, making it easier than ever to eliminate cable clutter. With lossless transmission and low latency, even the most discerning enthusiast will be thrilled with the results. Sound Structure The cabinet plays a critical role in the sound quality of a speaker. Abyss subwoofer cabinets are made of 1” thick MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) with additional reinforcement on the woofer baffles and a central brace. This solid construction provides a more stable platform for the high performance woofer to play from, resulting in cleaner, more articulate bass. Robust Connectivity In addition to the built-in wireless connection option, Abyss 8 offers incredible wired installation flexibility. With both RCA and XLR LFE inputs, Stereo RCA inputs, Speaker Level inputs, and Sub Out connections, Abyss 8 can be easily integrated into even the most complex systems. Simultaneous connections are also supported. Reduced Vibration, Enhanced Bass Solid bass performance is a critical component of any audio system and contributes to the visceral impact of your entertainment. Abyss 8’s integrated anti-vibration feet improve bass performance while reducing floor and wall vibrations. By dramatically reducing energy transfer between the subwoofer and the floor, unwanted room rattles and buzzes are eliminated, resulting in tighter, cleaner bass and improved system clarity and dynamics. As a less intrusive alternative to acoustic room treatments, Abyss 8’s integrated anti-vibration feet can also help minimize noise complaints by reducing vibration transfer into adjoining rooms. Out of the box, Abyss 8’s anti-vibration feet are safe for all flooring types, and optional carpet spikes are included to further improve performance on carpeted floors. Optimize Bass Performance with Award-Winning Anthem Room Correction Abyss 8 is compatible with the award-winning Anthem Room Correction (ARC®) system. This highly advanced software measures subwoofer performance in your room and then performs custom equalization, tuning, and calibration to achieve the highest levels of bass impact and accuracy possible for your specific installation. Requires an ARC® Calibration Microphone and a PC or Mac computer (sold separately). Compact Size Meets Bold Performance and Style The ultra-compact Abyss 8 is one of the least intrusive subwoofers available, able to better fit where larger subs would seem out of place. To help further compliment your décor, Abyss 8 is available in two premium finish options. The Gloss Black version features a deep, mirror-like cabinet finish accented by gunmetal woofer trim. The Satin White version uses a bright, non-gloss cabinet finish accented by silver woofer trim. Both versions use MartinLogan’s unique, stealth grille retention system to ensure a seamless style when the grille is removed.
